Blueberry Picking

Took the kids blueberry picking. As always I love going to Pungo to feel the simplicity of country living. You can just feel it driving down the road. We filled one whole bucket. Made a few things, but mostly just ate them all by the handfuls. The kids had a great time!

Bear Creek Camping with the Hewitts

We had a great time camping with the Hewitt clan. They had never gone and had been wanting to give it a try so we set it up and off we went. It fun while it lasted, but cut a little short.......They were actually able leave before us and by the time we got there they had their whole sight set up like they had been doing it forever. We left on Thursday and got up there just in time to get set up. Had a great Friday...... Was very hot, but beautiful. The guys and boys did lots of fishing. Our sites were right on the water so we couldn't have asked for better spots. Grant impressed everyone with catching a huge bass so you can imagine the excitement that it created. We spent the next part of the day swimming in the lake. We got back to our site and had dinner and were starting to settle in for the evening and it started to rain a little and we thought oh oh....very quickly it went into a complete down pour and the biggest lightening show I've seen in a long time. Very scary! The Hewitts decided very quickly they weren't hangin around very long and didn't blame them one bit as I thought the same thing. I hopped in the truck with the kids while Craig helped them pack up. With 2 crying kids, Craig and I pulled out thoughts together real quick and decided the best thing to do with 3 little ones was take what we needed and leave the rest and find a hotel. Surely there'd be one in podunk Virginia somewhere right?! After driving 45 minutes we found one and by the time we got settled it was 11:30. Overall the kids did really well...the crying ceased and they fell asleep in the truck so we were able to transfer them once we got there. It just took a little team work, but we did it. They next day we drove back to camp to get our stuff and it was all completely soaked....bedding and all. Good thing we didn't try to tough it out. So we packed up all the wet stuff and headed back home. On the drive and through the experience we were able to have some great life talks on even going through something silly like that on a camping trip brings you closer together from working together to just trying to figure out what you are going to do as you go. Even though life and things are tough sometimes....I love it when you can look at each other and smile and say.....we did it anyway. Sounds like life to me:)
